The good news is that I've located a place for the new website and all the technical requirements to run it. The bad news is, I've been enamored all day by the details of the business side of it- logo for the site, who's going to do what, day-to-day processes, even business cards... help help, I've become a suit!

Well, maybe not a suit. I'm pretty much looking to lampoon Business itself, by turning my joke (the site) into a business. It's a good exercise in running a small business as well. I'd like to think someday I'll go my own way with some business idea, and this is a good dry run. Besides, who knows, maybe it'll make money (how *do* websites make money nowadays, anyhow?).

Besides, having a business card with a totally silly logo and business title will be fun.

Ye gods, I'm a geek.

Got the creative juices flowing as of late. Starting to put together a bit of a plan for a new website project; we'll see how it goes. I have a good 20 or more writing ideas to go on it already. I suppose it could turn into a bit of a business, so I suppose I'll start drawing up a bit of professional plans for it. Nothing fancy, just enough organization to insure that it doesn't go to pot for lack of organization, as befalls many an unfortunate web venture sometimes.

The little woman is taking the little people to the zoo today. I wanna go =(.

Alas, the life of the wage slave...

Belated moment of silence for Sci-fi/fantasy

Andre Norton passed away last week. I haven't read her works, but plan to look into them soon. I wasn't aware that she was local to here (lived in Murfreesboro, just 20 miles away or so), or that she had founded a research library for sci fi and fantasy authors (the The High Hallack Genre Writer's Research and Reference Library). I'll have to make a pilgrimage down to visit it soon. Maybe it might inspire me to start that book I keep putting off.

In other news, started putting together some sort of organization of all the things I want/need to do recently. Like all things in my life, it appears terribly overcomplicated, and quickly became a spreadsheet with about ten pages to it, a little over half of which is fleshed out. The good news, though, is since I started it, I've begun to accomplish things at a rapid pace. I caught up about a dozen certifications last week (bob bless brainbench's subscription service), completed a ton of work on the house, and have researched going back to college in earnest. In fact, I'll likely enroll in a local community college and get my feet wet again sometime this fall. If it works this well for everything, then maybe I *will* get to that book.

Or, actually, books. The new job is going well, and the folks I've been working with on the PMO have actually openly encouraged me to write a book. The market seems rather glutted with how-to info on project management, software development, analysis and business in general, but still, there might be room for one more. Most of the works on such things nowadays seem to be so highly academic in nature that there's just too much to read or do before you start seeing real benefit. Maybe something with a more incremental approach is worthwhile. Who knows.

I would like to get some sort of businessy, ITish website started though, to help the career presence along, if nothing else. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas for a name?

Looking forward to the next week, but nervous... the little woman and little ones to be will be arriving tomorrow to spend the week with me. And the house is still a construction zone. Woohoo? :)

Here I am... try two

Seeing as life is finally settling down enough to have time for this, I thought I'd clear everything out and start over. I've had a lot of changes in life the last couple of months... bought a house, met a wonderful woman, gotten engaged, changed jobs... I wish that I had had the time to keep a journal through the early stages of the house. I bought a true "fixer upper". There were holes in the walls that you could put your head through (and from what I hear of the history of the house, no doubt that's how they got there in the first place). All the holes are fixed now, though, the filth-ridden carpet replaced, and the first room of wallpaper has been stripped and removed. I have three more rooms of wallpaper to strip, many many doors to paint, and a variety of trim to do, and the inside will be complete. Just a few things to fix outside, and I can start chopping down and taming the jungle that is my yard. Oh, and someday I must get a plumber in about the tub in the master bath.

Hmm, what else... the little-woman-to-be will be in town thursday or friday, with the little-ones-to-be in tow (we have two- a five year old and nine year old). They're staying for a week to visit, help out with some of the house, and sort of a trial run for living together later. We're hoping to hold the wedding at the end of may or early june, so a little practice might be best.

Oh, and the new job... I am a business analyst for the Tennessee Department of Transportation now (yes, technically its a non-technical job!). I'm working on helping to establish their project management office, which is interesting enough I suppose. It's amazing how few people in modern business actually understand how to plan, keep up with costs, all those things that you would believe business has always revolved around for many generations.

Speaking of planning, must go to a meeting in a few... more later on!
